It was never about COVID’19

Hey guys, missed me?. I know you are anticipating the next PDP session but it will be on soon😀. A lot has happened in the world this past weeks and I just want to share an experience that made me sad, but then got me smiling. Ever heard Sinophobia or the anti-Chinese sentiments? Its real.. So last Friday before my skills class, we had a long break and so my friend and I decided to go get lunch before class. It was gonna be statistics so you know, we had to fill the tank up 😅. As we went down towards KFC we just kept talking about COVID19 and whether or not the Uni will moved to an online lecture system. Just at the traffic light close to Cineworld, a middle aged man with a Scottish accent spat on the floor saying “ you immigrants are bringing sh*t to this country (Referring to the corona virus I believe), go back to where you belong’’. This was not the first time I had experienced such treatment as you may have noticed from my earlier post but who is counting? Just to be sure he was referring to me I turned to stare at him dead in the eye and he spat again. I was disappointed because Scotland is one of the friendliest places I have visited to date, but this is a sign of how we can easily loss our humanity. Moving on, before I could react, 3 students and a lady confronted him and put him in his place. After a quick interaction with them I realised one of the guys was a student of GCU and the other 2 from Strathclyde Uni. The lady didn’t say. To be honest I was not surprised, but disappointed that even when we have a common virus as the enemy, we still blame and curse ourselves. I felt happy after my interaction because the young generation understands what it means to be a global citizen and putted the man in his place. He may not have shown it, but he will give it some thought. It feels really good and encouraging to see the younger generation being enlightened to stand up for what is right. It feels even better to know that one of the guys is from GCU. I bet they have no idea they have exhibited at least two of the common good attributes, confidence for calling the man out and active and global citizen for going blind to skin colour and race. THE WORLD WILL HEAL IF WE HEAL OUR MINDSET.
